The band always have a busy January and February preparing for the North West Regional Championships which this year took place on the last weekend in February in Blackpool.
The band are in the 3rd Section and the set work for this year was Philip Harpers – Napoleon on the Alps.
The week before the contest is an intense week of rehearsals with our musical advisor Gordon Higginbottom. He is always ready to put the band through its paces and makes sure they are ready for the contest stage. The Thursday before we travelled we held our Open Rehearsals at St. Ninian’s Church so all our friends and family members could come and listen to the piece and see how are hard work was progressing.
Sunday is when the contest takes place and there were 16 other bands in our section. We were the 4th band to play and we came off the stage very happy with our performance. Then we wait for the results.
The results were then announced and the band had achieved 5th place! We were very happy with this result and our trophy to go with it. We then sat listening the rest of the results and to our delight we were also awarded with the best percussion prize! Well done to our percussion team on this fantastic achievement – Bethany, Terry and Bryce!
We would like to say a special thank you to the Isle of Man Steam Packet for their assistance and support with our travel to this years contest.
